The Acadia Dance Community Club is offering a variety of recreational classes and levels during our 20 weeks of instruction (September 2016 to March 2017). Regular recreational classes can range in size from 4 students to ~20 students, but require a minimum of 4 students to run. You will find a description of each type of class offered by the ADCClub under the Recreational Classes tab. Please use this information as a guide to help select the class(es) that best fit with your interest, age and level of experience.
In addition to the regular recreational classes, the ADCClub offers private and semi-private classes. Private and semi-private classes run from September to the end of November with a total of 11 classes. A private class is a class with one student and one instructor. A semi-private class is a class with 2-3 students and one instructor. Students seeking instruction at a more advanced level may find a private or semi-private class to be the best option.
Private and semi-private classes are also offered in the winter term (January to March) with registration taking place in December.
Please note: The following are potential classes. The decision to run a class depends on teacher availability and stundent interest. Please check the schedule at the bottom for our current offerings.
Class variants may also be listed on the schedule due to student interest in a given year.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics (acro) is a combination of various forms of dance with floor style gymnastics. It is a fast paced and physically challenging form of dance that requires students to have strength and flexibility.

Creative Movement- Saturday 11:00am-12:00pm
- For ages 4-5
Creative movement offers an opportunity for young children to express themselves in an environment that facilitates their dance imaginations. This is generally children’s first time dancing with a group of others their own age, but without Moms or Dads. This class aims to introduce young children to the foundations of dance in a playful environment.
Hip Hop
Hip-hop dancers spend a lot of time on their feet and less on the floor. Our classes combine breakdance and hip-hop to give dancers a broad range of moves that can be choreographed into some fantastic group and individual dances.
The ADCClub is offering one Hip Hop class:
Intermediate Hip Hop- Friday 5:00pm-6:00pm
Dancewear requirements: white sneakers for basic and elementary levels; black Hip Hop shoes for intermediate level; comfortable shorts, pants or sweat pants (no jeans); fitted t-shirt or tank top. Hair must be tied back and away from the face.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is an interpretive and expressive style of dance requiring strength, alignment, and emotion. The technical foundation for contemporary includes jazz and ballet. Students wishing to take contemporary should have experience in both jazz and ballet.
The ADCClub is offering one class in Contemporary.

Irish- Sunday 2:00pm-3:00pm
Irish dancing is a traditional dance form that can either be in “soft shoe” or “hard shoe.” Characterized by rapid leg movements and stationary upper bodies and arms, it offers an excellent cardiovascular workout. We will be offering one section of Irish dance, but if there is interest we will offer two: one for beginners and one for experienced Irish dancers.
Dancewear requirements: black bodysuit, black shorts or skort and white t-shirt; Irish soft shoes or hard shoes depending on the participants; white ankle or Irish bubble socks.
Jazz
Jazz dance is one of the most popular styles of dance because it is versatile and fun. Jazz dancing includes specific moves, like the axel turn, the ball change, and the fan kick, but allows for style and originality.

Musical Theatre
Musical theatre is all about bringing together dance (generally jazz) and singing in a theatrical performance. A flare for the dramatic is an added bonus for a musical theatre student. Dance experience is not required for musical theatre, but classes in jazz are highly recommended, particularly for the more advanced MT students.
The ADCClub is offering two Musical Theatre classes:
